The Anti-Bullying Alliance produces a free Anti-Bullying Week
pack for schools each year. In 2009 the pack focused
on the topic of Cyberbullying. We have no more copies of the
printed resources left, but the following resources can be
downloaded:
Although the pack was written for schools the
information and ideas in the briefing pack and many of the other
resources will be of relevance to other settings such as after
school and youth clubs.
Not all parents and teachers may be aware of the age
restrictions on the use of social networking sites. There is
helpful information about many aspects of social networking on the
digizen
website which states that:
"Most sites, but not all, specify that users need to be 13 or
over. MySpace requires users to be over 14. Flickr has no age
restrictions for its free service, but requires verified
parent/guardian consent. Ning allows members of any age, but
setting up communities specifically for people under the age of 13
is not allowed.
Most sites assume or request parental consent – schools and
colleges need to consider how this can effectively be
obtained."
Please bear these restrictions in mind if you are using the
reporting activity (number 7 of the 10 quick ideas for teachers)
with children under the age of 13.
