Bullying doesn’t only affect those directly involved; it has a
detrimental effect on the whole school. That’s why the ABA
recommends that bullying be tackled on a whole-school basis. An
effective anti-bullying strategy should:
- meet the legal requirements to safeguard children and prevent
discrimination
- be steered by an anti-bullying policy that is understood and
shared by all members of the school community
- ensure all staff are trained in prevention and response to
bullying
- seek to measure improvement in anti-bullying work
- make best use of available support from other schools and wider
partnerships
- take into account the views of children and young people,
parents and carers
This section provides information for schools
on anti-bullying strategies and
case studies of best practice, as well as
a set of questionnaires for schools to
use to assess bullying and the views and experiences
of pupils.
