Tacade has a website
dedicated to supporting schools to tackle homophobia. The
site outlines relevant legislation and includes details
of resources for all key stages, with downloadable secondary
resources.
Exceeding
Expectations
'Exceeding Expectations' is a three-year initiative that aims to
support schools in tackling homophobic bullying. It is part of
Manchester Children's Services Equality Strategy. The
project provides staff training, a play (OUTLOUD), follow-up
workshops, lesson plans and a young people's peer support group.
The Exceeding Expectations
website has downloadable resources to support
teachers, staff and young people.
The Homophobia Project
Made by Peer
Productions, this DVD encourages young people to question their
behaviour and gain awareness and understanding about equality and
diversity issues whilst providing teachers with a starting point
for discussion and change. The DVD comes with a full teachers

LGBT Youth North
West resources
LGBT Youth North West have produced a range of resources for
schools and youth settings to explore issues relating to sexuality,
including homophobic bullying.

Free teaching pack from the Terrence Higgins
Trust, providing teachers with ideas on how to talk
about sexual orientation and challenge homophobia in schools. The

EACH – Educational Action
Challenging Homophobia
EACH is the award-winning charity for adults and young people
affected by homophobia. It provides a freephone Actionline across
England and Wales for young people affected by homophobic bullying.
EACH delivers training on a variety of sexual orientation issues to
a wide range of organisations and co-wrote the
“Safe to Learn: Homophobic Bullying” guidance for the
Department for Children, Schools and Families.

Dedicated to fighting homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism in
education. Website features a teaching pack and a student
toolkit
LGBT History Month
Provides an opportunity for schools to
teach and learn more about the histories of lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender people in Britain and Northern Ireland
Sticks and
Stones
Project from the Rural
Media Company which aims to raise awareness of homophobic
bullying in rural areas. With the support of EACH, the project set
up an online forum which recorded the experiences of young LGBT
people, who were then involved in creating a dark and shocking 10
minute film, called 'Bleeding Poof', which conveys the harm caused
by homophobic bullying. Copies of the film can be obtained

schools. Website includes research, resources and case studies
Guidance on Combating
Transphobic Bullying in Schools
Schools are bound by a general duty to protect all their
transgender pupils and staff from transphobic bullying. This
guidance, from the Gender Identity Research and Education
Society (GIRES) contains guidance for schools on effective ways
to support and protect transgender pupils and staff.

Outsiders
The 'No Outsiders' project funded by the Economic and Social
Research Council, in collaboration with Exeter University and the
Institute of Education, supports primary teachers in developing and
evaluating school projects that address sexual equalities. The
website includes teaching resources, research and guidance,
and relevant links.
