Young ABA members are all Diana Anti-Bullying Award Holders.
This means we have all received awards for the anti-bullying work
we do in our schools and communities.
So just what do our members do to receive their Anti-Bullying
Awards? Here are just two inspirational stories.
Chrisie
Chrisie won her award this year for her
work with the North West Young Anti-Bullying Alliance (NWYABA). In
2008, she was inspired by a conference in Camelot and went on to
gave a presentation and conduct research on cyberbullying with Year
6 students in Irlam and Cadishead.
Chrisie has presented at many
conferences and has set up her own peer mentoring scheme within her
school. She has trained the younger students to be mentors and to
continue the work that she started. She now hopes to link the work
accomplished with both the NWYABA and Young ABA. Chrisie says;
“the rewards are fantastic. And when the person you helped
thanks you, well the feeling is just overwhelming.”
Alex
Working at a local secondary
school and in his community, Alex created a series of exciting and
engaging ways of getting the anti-bullying message across and in
actively supporting other young people in becoming leaders of the
future.
Alex has won several awards,
including a Pride of Milton Keynes award and two Princess Diana
Awards. He was even crowned BBC Three Counties Hero. Alex
has appeared on Sky News, MTV News, Gcap National Radio and
even Italian TV, and is a regular contributor to Radio
One, Five Live and other radio stations. He has also made a recent
appearance on Noel Edmonds’ Sky 1 show, 'Noel's HQ'.
Fresh from winning a national
competition on MTV (for creating a ‘Grand Idea’ against bullying),
Alex worked on an exciting multi-media campaign with a number
of celebrities, including Dame Kelly Holmes. In 2009, ITV Anglia
named Alex 'Teacher of the Year' for his specialist anti-bullying
work.
He is often quoted as saying: “It's
not just about bullying anymore, it's about looking out for each
other.”
